I have taken classes in Synergetic Play Therapy at Naropa University and plan to be trained at the Synergetic Play Therapy Institute. SPT is a researched-informed model of play therapy, which is a combination of play therapy, nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, mindfulness, and Gestalt. SPT believes that the child “sets us up” to feel what it is like to be them. By understanding this “set up,” we can understand the child’s perspective. Play therapy provides children an outlet to work through buried information and teaches regulation and integration.
SPT is client-centered and experiential. It can be a combination of using a sand tray, toys, animals, art, and more. It uses both non-directive and directive approaches.
